A New Season Resolution

12 April

We are officially a third through the year and can I start by saying its literally flown by and thats a scary thought as I feel like I haven’t done or achieved as much and you can probably tell as I haven’t posted as much which sucks. So I’m going to give myself a ‘New Season resolution’ and spend the majority of the year ticking of things from a new bucket list and I’m going to share with you below five of my main things I want to achieve. If you want to add to my bucket list or give me fun things to try and complete then please leave them in the comments below as I feel like I’m not very adventurous and I’m defiantly not good and trying new things and I will make a blog post with a new and improved bucket list.

       1) Do Some Outfit Photo-Shoots to Create Seasonal Lookbooks
I really enjoy looking at other people’s outfits for inspiration especially now I live in London, there’s always someone who has a quirky style that I’m dying to try. So for every new season I’m going to take my fashion knowledge and inspiration and come up with my own little style ideas and produce a mini look book.

      2)  Visit Two More Cities
This year I have already visited Paris, however I now have the travel bug and want to travel two more new cities, I’m not sure what ones I want to go to yet but I’m going to be spontaneous and just book them randomly. I will probably do one in the summer and one in the winter just to break the year up and it will give me something to look forward to in the colder months.

      3)   Start Making Clothing
My passion in life is making clothing so lately I’ve been watching some DIY videos lately of people who transform thrift shop clothing into new exciting clothing which is what I want to do as its quick and easy plus a lot of fun. Also I feel this is a great way to create beautiful clothes as well as save a lot of money.

      4)   Be More Active in Myself
As you can tell I haven’t been very active for myself or on social media and that’s because I’ve been lazy and doubtful. When it comes to doing something I enjoy I start of on a high then slowly give up and self-doubt starts to kick in, and I know its not just me that does this, I feel a lot of people tend to give up on things and believe me its not worth it when it gets tough just keep going and you will feel so much better. Also don’t stop doing things you love because other people don’t like it! Its your choice not theirs.

      5)  Love Myself and Others
I want to be able to love myself without all the self-doubt and lack of confidence and this blog was the first step in my goal for happiness. Over the years a lot of people have knocked me back and now I’ve finally overcome it and started to mold myself into the person I want to be and aim to be. I find comfort in seeing other people happy or making them happy and this is what everyone should feel, no one should feel any less then someone else because we are all the same and all in the same boat. So love yourself for who you are not who other people want you to be.

Sephora Haul 2017

05 March

As many peoplee know there are no Sephora stores in the UK, which may I add sucks as there are so many great products we are missing out on. I was inspired to do a haul from watching Youtubers that have done Sephora hauls as they always rave about Sephora products so I thought I would try a few products out myself.

When I saw my first Sephora store I was not disappointed, there were so many great products available with all kinds of different brands, however my initial aim was to try out the Sephora own brand products. I wanted to try the skin products out as these are the main things I saw on other peoples channels and they had such good things to say about them, however I also ended up getting a few makeup products.
I haven’t tried out these products yet so I will do a small review on each individual product once tried and tested so for now I will leave the link next to the products.

London Fashion Week - Hussein Chalayan

20 February

Being a fashion student in London comes with a few perks and one of those perks happened to get me backstage at London Fashion Week (I worked as a dresser for Hussein Chalayans show). For me this is a pretty big deal as I learnt how it all worked backstage at one of world most demanded fashion events plus I got to see and work with the garments before they went on the catwalk. Let me say it takes a lot to try plan a fashion show and so being there put it into perspective for my future fashion shows.

The show started at 9am so we had to be at the venue (Sadler’s Wells Theatre) for 7am, but I presume the models and Chalayans team were there a lot earlier for hair and makeup and preparing the runway. We waited quite a while as they were running behind, but who could blame them as they did change their show from Paris to London within 4 weeks from the date of the show. Once they were ready, me and the other dressers got taken backstage to see the space we were working with and trust me there was hardly any space at all, we then got assigned to our models and their outfits – they get two outfits for the show. I got one of the most complicated outfits but lucky for me my model was already in her first outfit plus I got to work with one of Hussein Chalayans team which meant I got to ask her questions whilst waiting in between change overs and build my knowledge. Once the rest of the models were dressed in their first outfits they got ready for the lineup. This is the important part as there’s no room for mistakes or loose pieces of thread on the garments so we had to lint role the models, plus as well as us there were hair and makeup working on the models whilst we were making sure the garments were sitting right on the models bodies, could you imagine if the garments weren’t on properly? That could be disastrous.

Before I knew it the models were back in like 30 seconds flat which meant I had a good solid minute to get my model dressed into her next and final garment, the outfit comprised of a button up shirt and a pair of trousers. This might not sound too bad but once the first garment comes off you have hair dressers there trying to redo the hair,  that makes my job at lot harder as I have hardly no space and no room for mistakes. Plus, you have to take the tights off and put on socks and redo the shoes. Once the models were in their garments they prepared for the final walk of the show. This was a great feeling knowing that you prepared the models for a successful show, however that meant my experience was nearly over.  The finale consisted of the garments having huge paper pockets over the front of their garments, they had to pull off the paper to expose a mixture of glitter and metallic shreds that would then hang from their garments to produce a beautiful display of shimmery colour. Chalayan is known to create spectacular jaw dropping designs and I think his finale exceeded all expectations.

After the show was finished I had to take the clothes from the model and make sure there were no flaws to the garments, I gave the garments a once over with the lint roller and placed it back in the garment bag ready for consumers. The most important part of this day was getting a personal thank you from Hussein Chalayan, it was nice to see him so happy and why would he be? The show was a success and this goes to prove without a team there would be no show. Opportunities like these might not seem big but once you get one opportunity this opens doors to many more and the more experience you have the further you will get.

How to Pick The Perfect University

15 February

As most people know its that time of year where people are still deciding and getting offers for higher education, however how do you know the university you’ve picked it right for you?
When it comes to picking a suitable university there’s a lot of factors you need to consider such as: whether it caters for your needs, has the facilities you want or even if it does a work placement? Its all a matter of priority in which factors think are the most important as you’re the one who has to pay for the degree and then spend three years working towards it. So how do you choose the right university…

1) Do Your Research
The more research you manage to do the better understanding you will get of the university. Try to think of things like student accommodation, university facilities, what’s the library like? As you will probably end up spending most of your time there.  All these factors act as a base foundation for building up your knowledge.

2) What Does the University Offer?
When looking at universities don’t just go there because they do your course or because your friends or family want you to go, you need to dig deeper into it at the end of the day its your future no one else’s. Think about the alumni - the better the alumni the better the course. That’s how I see it for example if the university has a well known and highly appreciated alumni then that means more people will be inspired to work as hard to be in the same position. Also do they offer work experience, it’s a tough world and there are so many people competing for the same thing, so the more experience you get the better you will look. Additionally, look for facilities, when going to a university think about what you want from it and what you want to do, if the university don’t accommodate for you then why you considering it?

3) Visit the University
The key to finding the perfect university is looking at it in person, pictures may make it look good but when were the pictures taken? 2 years ago? Or 5 years ago? A lot can happen over time. Additionally, angles make pictures look different, think when you take a picture of yourself you try to find the best angle to make yourself look better, this is exactly what universities do. The best thing to do is to book open days’ loads and loads of open days this is the best way to get the best insight on what the campus is like, what the vibe is like and if the students enjoy it. When you arrive you will either be intrigued or you wont feel good about it, first impressions are important because if you don’t like it straight away its going to take ages to open up to the idea of attending it.

4) Questions, Questions and more questions
To me finding out everything you want to know is important because not asking that one question can be a crucial factor for your future. Make sure you write down all the questions you want to ask as this will help you on open days. Dont be scared to ask and people who don’t ask don’t find out.  Make sure to write questions not only for the lecturers but for students and other people in the same position as you because getting a broader answer will help you dramatically. For example, if you ask people in the same boat as you, you might learn new things or new questions you want to find out, if you talk to present students they will be straight forward and tell you what the course is like and if they enjoy it. Additionally, ask about student life, what’s the area like and is it good for socializing? After all you find your lifelong friends at uni.

5) Funding
The best thing about universities is getting student loans, however there are other funding and scholarships that universities offer which you don’t have to pay back because who doesnt want extra money? Make sure you ask about these on open days and follow up about them as believe me they help. Also never think you’re not good enough to apply for a scholarship or additional funding as what’s the worse that could happen, they say no but they could also say yes, it’s a bit of a 50/50 but there’s no harm in trying.
